Someone once asked, "How many psychologists does it take to change a light bulb?" The answer is, "Only one. If the bulb wants to change."
Please note, in looking over the following list of services it is important to keep in mind that regardless of the service, at the base I am a professionally trained Life Coach. Working with adults with ADHD is a significant part of my professional activities. The core of all services provided is from the background of being a Life Coach.
The focus of ADHD coaching is to provide individualized life coaching services for adults who struggle with the symptoms of ADHD. Please note that I do not provide coaching services for children or for most adolescents. It has been my experience that the best way to help children and teens with ADHD is to support and empower the parent(s) of these young people. I provide a variety of coaching, training and education services for the parents of children and teens diagnosed with ADHD.
We will start with an initial assessment to clearly define your short and long term goals, everything from communication skills to personal acceptance. And of course if you are seeking help managing ADHD we need a clear picture of how ADHD affects you and how you manage your ADHD. We will use these goals as a foundation to create a strategy for attaining these objectives.
As a Life Coach, I specialize in the following areas:
- Coaching for Individuals Diagnosed with ADHD
- Coaching for Parents of Children with ADHD
- Coaching small business owners and managers
- Coaching sales and professional people
- Coaching athletes in peak performance and stress management
I am also trained and have experience in providing coaching for areas of personal and professional development:
- Coaching for Spiritual Formation
- Relationship Coaching
- Guided Imagery and Visualization as well as Hypnosis and Self-hypnosis to resolve problems and enhance performance in a variety of areas
- Work and Career issues
- Coaching and training to provide Stress Management
- Addiction & Recovery
- Conflict Resolution
- Working with athletes, many of whom present with symptoms of ADHD
The above list may look exhaustive. It may cause you to scratch your head and wonder if I am just throwing topics on the wall to try to cover the proverbial map. In fact the areas I have listed are the outcome of 35 years of education and experience. Throughout those 35 years I have had extensive training and experience as well as certification in a wide range of professional areas.
What this means to you, the client, is that I bring a significant depth of training and experience to our work. While working to help you to manage your our your children's issues with ADHD, we will be able to address a broad spectrum of issues that impact the life of the person struggling to manage ADHD. For example, people with ADHD
- often are self-employed entrepreneurs,
- struggle to manage their condition in the workplace,
- often struggle with spiritual issues in their life,
- struggle with issues of addiction and recovery,
- struggle with issue of conflict both in the workplace and in family and personal relationships,
- and most certainly struggle with issues of stress and anxiety.
And to show how diverse and complex all this can get, I do a considerable amount of work in the field of performance enhancement. Now, this field encompasses both business and sport as performance issues are critical for success in both areas. Later on I will dedicate a whole page to discussing this issue.
As might be expected, I do quite a bit of teaching and presenting of workshops and conferences. At this time I am generally not available for keynote addresses.
Provision of services
Typically life coaching is provided over the telephone. This usually takes place in 30 minute sessions, done weekly. However, this arrangement is not set in stone and there are many options offered, depending on the both the goals and the needs of the client. Coaching services can be provided both in person in my office or at my client's location, as well as over the telephone.
Now, I must add a note of reality here. Sometimes a client arrives with unrealistic expectations. A novice golfer, for example, has been bitten by the "golf bug". S/he might unrealistically be looking for some kind of magic to propel them into a major tournament. While I admire the enthusiasm we sometimes have to work on adjusting expectations to a more realistic timeframe. As I quip, I charge extra for perfection.
When working with athletes, typically we begin in my office. If the work demands it we may also work on site of the athlete's performance, whether on a golf course or in a gym. For example, to improve shooting skills of a basketball player we will typically be in a gym where we can work with guided imagery, as well as in vivo training.
Coaching offered at a client's location is typically part of a more comprehensive contract, involving consultation, employee development and other services provided to help the client manage a small business more effectively. Skype is available for my clients in countries outside the United States. While I have lived in Belgium and do have conversational skills in French all services are provided solely in English.
I make it a habit to be open about my training and experience. I go into more detail about these matters in the section, "About Me".
In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of my client's individual needs to help attain the personal growth you are striving for.
